We Need to Fix Our Failing Education System

The Unites States is in debt. Our teachers are under paid. Schools are failing. Parents are broke. We’re reducing the number of teachers. We’re reducing the overall investment in education. Does anyone really think this is a recipe for success?
As I see it, if we want the good old USA to be competitive in the global economy, we need to make some serious changes!

Someone once said (I forgot exactly who), that if we really know anything about education, it is that students have a greater effect on the schools than the schools have on them. Could this be true?
Well, no person in his right mind ever really believed that schools were the only place where people received their education, or the only place where their minds and characters were shaped, or the only place where they learned what the world was like. No person really believed this, but to a very great extent we did nothing about it. In fact, we acted as if we really did believe it!
